I soon found out. My apartment has been
recently refurbished. The kitchen has a completely adequate refrigerator
(as opposed to the very small ones usual in Britain) AND a dish washer. The landlord graciously supplied a toaster and mixer. I made an apple coffee cake yesterday and learned how to use the convection oven. You have to turn on the timer for the oven to work. I guess this is an energy conservation method. When the timer goes off, so does the oven.
- I really like the tea kettle, it glows a beautiful blue while the water is heating.
My bedroom is under the eaves, quaint and cozy.
I have divided the living room into two areas: a personal living area with TV and computer desk (When I arrived, the landlord was careful to show me how the TV worked, to which I replied, "Why do I need to know that? Aren't all the channels in Lithuanian?" But no, of the twenty channels available, six are in English: Discovery, Animal Planet, National Geographic, BBC World, CNN, and a channel that plays Hallmark movies, English mystery dramas, and a couple of trashy US shows such as the Real Housewives of Orange county.)
and an entertainment area, which doubles asa a drying area for my laundry, since though I have a washing machine, like most other Lithuanians, I have no dryer.
The other tenants in the building also work at LCC University. The couple directly beneath me are Darius and Brook. He teaches church history and she stays home with their 9 month old son, Levi. They have taken me under their wing, showing me how to get around, inviting me for a small New Years Eve celebration and explaining how to renew my electricity when I trip the curcuit breaker .
I look forward many contented days in my new home.
